Mindful, appropriate, personalised assists - Teachers’ workshop

  • Studio 70 Glasgow 70 Victoria Road Glasgow, Scotland, G42 7AA United Kingdom (map)

Since returning to studio classes after COVID lockdowns, and the impact of the #metoo movement, the yoga teaching community has reassessed our approach to physical assists.

While we were teaching online we couldn’t rely on physical touch to offer support and guidance, so we refined our verbal cueing, and even several years on, many teachers have not reintroduced physical assists into their teaching.

However, touch can be a beautiful way to offer reassurance, support and bring awareness to parts of the body we haven’t noticed.

This workshop for teachers will build confidence in physical assisting for vinyāsa and yin yoga. Learn how to move beyond standardised assists, to see what is really needed and cater your support to each individual.

Here are some questions we'll aim to answer in this comprehensive 3 hour workshop:

  • Why assist?

  • What are assists even for, what can they offer?

  • Assists in Vinyasa, assists in Yin.

  • Approaches - when to do it and when not

  • Responsive assists: How to ‘listen’ with your hands

  • Catering assists to the individual.

  • Some principles for making good judgements.

This workshop is £65 and is eligible for CPD hours for Yoga Alliance.
