Teachers' CPD Series - Embodied Philosophy - Weaving Yoga’s Wisdom Teachings into Āsana Classes

  • Merchant City Yoga 49 Virginia Street Glasgow, Scotland, G1 1TS United Kingdom (map)

Āsana is just one branch of the vast and rich tradition of yoga, but the majority of mainstream yoga classes focus mainly on the physical experience of body and breathing.

But even when we practice physical yoga we bring the whole of ourselves to the mat - our minds, our hearts, our thought patterns, habits and preferences. It can be truly profound and transformative for practitioners to experience yoga philosophy in the context of a physical yoga class - exploring how the wisdom teachings of yoga play out in our bodies and our lives.

Ema has been weaving philosophy into their classes since they started teaching and has seen its powerful effects.

In this 4hr CPD workshop you'll explore:

  • How philosophical teachings can show up in the patterns of our physical practice

  • Ways to make your teaching personal, relevant and engaging to each individual

  • Practicalities of sharing philosophy in an appropriate, non-dogmatic way

Utilising asana postures for example is a great way to incorporate philosophy into teaching and thus help students manage/work through life challenges and joys. It has provided focus and given me ideas on how to incorporate philosophy into teaching practice with a little more ease.
